Should I Stay or Should I Go Now?

The Covid-19 virus has made many members uncertain about whether or not to retire this year.

With that in mind, MEA invites you to attend a special online Pre-Retirement Information Meeting (PRIM). This PRIM will not only cover Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System (MPSERS) basics, but briefly explore Non-Duty Disability Retirement, retiring retroactively, and how to revoke a retirement application if you’ve changed your mind about retiring – three topics that are not covered in our standard PRIMs. Please note the members who qualify for retirement under the Summer Birthday Provision may NOT take advantage of a retroactive retirement strategy.

Members in good standing who are interested in attending should go to

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080548AFAD2EA5F94-meaonline1 and enroll. When you sign up, please complete all fields so that we can verify your MEA membership. Once you’ve signed up, we will send you the Zoom link so you can attend.

Your time is important, and the training covers quite a bit of information, so we will start

promptly at 4:00pm. Consequently, we are asking that everyone log in to the Zoom waiting room for membership verification sometime between 3:45 PM and 3:50 PM. As the staff checking the memberships have other duties, the virtual waiting room will close shortly after 4:00pm, and no one will be allowed to join after that time. Members with questions about enrollment can contact Jess Fowler at JFowler@mea.org.

Trainings are limited to the first 50 people per training to sign up, with our first trainings to be

held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 26; Wednesday, May 27; and Thursday, May

28. More trainings will follow in the weeks to come based on member demand and need.
