This is What Democracy Looks Like

Hello to our members in good standing and awesome MEA retirees!

We will be hosting a Candidate Screening and Recommendation (S&R) meeting for the 26th Michigan Congressional District candidates, who are Republican Aric Nesbitt and Democrat Garnet Lewis. This districts covers Allegan County, Van Buren County, and a small section of Kent County.

We are inviting members from all locals in the 26th Michigan Congressional District to take part. Please express your interest in participating in the S&R by this Friday, September 7th. Once the interested members are known, an appropriate date for the S&R can be selected. The timeline is short so that we can have endorsements in place in time to publish in the Voice! We also want the candidates to have enough time to campaign with our endorsement and to rally the troops for him/her.

To be a part of an S&R meeting you must be a member in good standing and be an MEA-PAC contributor. It is vital for us to establish relationships with our legislative representatives and to recommend those that share our views on the importance of public education and the issues most important to us.

Send an RSVP for interest in participation to our Field Assistant, Becky Bailey, at rbailey@mea.org by Friday, September 7th.

This is what democracy looks like -- LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER TO EDUCATION!
